My Mission and Policies

 I will always place the needs and best interests of our District 5 Community above my own, and I will continue to serve my community as I have done for well over 30 years. It is important to not take a “one-size-fits-all” approach just for the sake of checking-off a list, and to instead make an honest effort to provide meaningful and efficient solutions. In order to achieve this, it is important to:

• I respect and trust our fellow citizens who live and work in District 5 and I will always listen to what District 5 citizens have to say.

•  I will reduce tax dollar waste by not paying out-of-state experts and researchers to identify problems that are obvious.

• It always takes a community, and that is why I will assemble and collaborate with community experts.

• “Community Safety, Community First.” This is the guiding principle. 

 Over the last few years citizens have voiced both their concerns and want for increased public safety measures as they have felt that the general trend has resulted in a significant loss in overall safety.  I will: 

•  Work to increase our police force  

•  Work to increase our EMS units  

• Fully support Police, Fire, and EMS to implement efficient practices that work best for their first responders in providing swift and effective response to the community they serve 

•  Support effective measures to combat drug, gang, and human-trafficking crime hubs  

• Expand engagement with SAFFE officers and command staff to ensure a safer and more confident community

• Reach out to school district police with training resources to help protect against school shootings, gang-related juvenile activity, and bullying-related violence.  

My goal is to eliminate the rising count of homelessness within District 5. I will: 

• Advocate for resources and services necessary for individuals to regain their economic status that was lost due to financial or occupational reasons 

• Seek to expand detox and drug rehabilitation services 

• Explore opportunities that empower hard-working, law-abiding citizens in their path towards home ownership, while simultaneously reducing nuisance home ownership that threatens public safety, quality of life and the rights of other fellow neighbors 

• Support the continued effort to make medical and dental resources available to community members who are experiencing financial hardship  

• Propose to establish a uniform vetting process with safeguards aimed at non-profit organizations that provide human services 

• Seek to provide more athletic after-school programs for elementary and junior high students 

 San Antonio continues to grow, as does traffic, therefore it is essential to ensure that our current infrastructure is not only modernized and maintained, but also facilitates growth in commerce. I will: 

• Make sure that traffic lights are properly timed to reduce excessive travel time  

• Prioritize street maintenance that is necessary to improve the safety of our roads 

• Improve street lighting in dark areas and also look for a more efficient process that expedites streetlight repair and maintenance

•  Support re-routing bike lanes to areas with less commercial traffic in lower-crime areas 

• Advocate for the expansion of public transportation by facilitating additional streamlined routes with reduced wait-times 

• Work to combat land-banking practices that result in unused abandoned properties 

• Work with Code Compliance to hold property owners responsible for actively maintaining their abandoned properties  

• Explore the acquisition of neglected properties in order to repurpose them

 There are areas in District 5 that have experienced major economic losses and have become commercial deserts. I will:

• Welcome well-established job and revenue-generating businesses and franchises that have the resources to immediately alleviate the economic strain  

• Seek to streamline the process to establish a job and revenue-generating business  

• Work to establish sound infrastructure and public safety resources  

• Explore to expand resources for small businesses whose business venture will directly address an economic need of the immediate area

No matter how much money a citizen has in their bank account, every citizen deserves clean air, clean drinking water, and a competent municipal government that is able to mitigate and assist citizens in the event of a disaster. I will:

• Make sure that areas which are truly at a high risk for disaster have resources readily available to quickly and effectively evacuate 

• Invest all effort to ensure that taxpayer dollars are never wasted on unnecessary projects that take resources away from vulnerable areas  

• Work with planners to ensure that infrastructure improvements are made to avoid as much as possible the likelihood of disasters ravaging our District 5 community

• Advocate for reasonable measures that minimize the worsening of our air quality, as well as ensuring that our water supply is protected

• Support enhanced monitoring of creeks and waterways for polluters and illegal dumpers while increasing fines for such offenses
